ATLANTIS

My name is Nathan Drake and this is my story.

I was a loving husband and a very loving father. My family was everything to me, each day that I wake up; they are the first thing that comes into my mind. My wife is Tina Drake; I gotta say that she is the best woman that I’ve ever been with. My son is Nicholas Drake and he’s 8 years old; I love him with all my heart. Every night, when he’s going to sleep he’d always ask me to tuck him in and to tell him a ghost story; his favorite one is “The Flying Dutchman”.

It was October 15, 2015; it was my son’s birthday I got him his most favored goldfish with an aquarium of his choice. He’d just stare at the fish for hours, and that completed me.

Now, my job is an account service representative and I’m going to be a manager only in a few more months. I really like my job if it wasn’t for my jealous co-worker. He is doing everything so that I could get fired; he was so obsessed to get my position. One night, all of us workers got to a bar to grab some beer. I was so drunk, but still I drove my car little to my knowledge, I accidentally slept then my worst fear happened, my car crashed, and an accident happens. I crashed against two people, I didn’t know whether they lived or die but I’m pretty sure that they died. I was so afraid I ran out of my car, yes, it was a very coward move, but there’s nothing I could do, fear got a hold of me like a cancer. Then I got home, adrenaline was flowing all over my body I didn’t know what else I’d do then I heard the most terrifying sound ever. Sirens.

I looked out the window, then I saw the boys in blue, I almost fainted, but then I saw my obsessed co-worker looking at me, smiling maniacally. I just froze, and then I saw my wife and child crying, my wife despises me of what I did. My world just crushed I just gave myself up to the police.

November 1, 2015, my time has come, my punishment was death penalty. Now, you must be wondering on why the punishment was so heavy? It’s because the two people that I bumped with my car were the District Attorney’s nephew and daughter. Then the D.A. pulled some strings so I could get this penalty. I’m really glad that I got the death penalty because I’m now ashamed of my life; I have no more reason to live. Then, the lights went out, I got knocked out.

I woke up to a very bright light with people-like creatures surrounding me and I was wearing a glass helmet I didn’t know why. After a while my vision got clear it was people with gills, and scale like skin and hair. I got shocked and I was very afraid, I got out of the bed. I ran and ran then I saw a window, I was astounded of what I saw, I thought it was just an illusion. I walked towards it to look clearly; I saw sea creatures, one’s that only existed in myths. I scrubbed my eyes to make sure, but it was crystal clear I saw sea creatures then I fainted. Again.

Hours later, I woke up, one big man was looking at me then he talked to me. The only thing that I ever understood of what he said was “be calm”. I followed what he said, and then he introduced himself, his name was Neptune, god of the sea. I was struck in awe when he said this. I was like “What did I do to have the chance to talk to the god of sea?”

Days later I was still here in this mystical place. I asked permission if I could go to King Neptune’s lair and he granted it. When I was entering his lair, my jaw was practically on the floor because of all the awesome pieces. Then I heard a loud voice, it was him. I asked him where am I, then he answered, an answer that was very unbelievable, he said “you are in Atlantis.” I laughed because I thought he was joking but then his face was serious, dead serious. From then on I knew; I am now living in the lost city.

After a few days, I asked a guard if I could go outside and if he could come with me, he obliged. If the city was amazing, I don’t know how I’ll explain the beauty the outside part of the Atlantis. I looked back then I saw the structure of the lost city, it’s in the shape of an aquarium, I remembered my son, I burst into tears. Following the events of me bursting into tears I asked if I could go to the surface, at first the guard hesitated but later on he felt pity, and then he was willing to help me. He gave me a pill that will give me a different facial structure so that the police won’t recognize me; I need this because I am now an escaped convict. I swallowed the pill then it turned me to a very ugly person.

Later on, I got to my old house; I saw my wife and my kid. This brought me the first smile I ever did since I got to Atlantis, I was so happy seeing them even though I know that I can’t be with them anymore. Then I felt a rumble on my face, it was getting wiggly and wavy, I saw my reflection on a car, the effect of the pill was being worn out. I hurriedly ran to the sea and I saw the guard waiting for me, he gave me my glass helmet then we went back to Atlantis.

It was Sunday morning; actually I’m not really sure because I don’t know the day and date ever since I woke up. While I was sitting and enjoying the view outside, King Neptune called me, and I did so because he’s a god and I’m only human. We had a very serious talk, he asked me if I could be one of them I was speechless because what right do I have to become one of their species? I’m only a petty criminal. He was shock by my answer and he just asked me to leave, but before I walked out of his door, he asked if I could at least think of the proposal that he gave me before declining it and I said “Yes, I will. I will thoroughly think about it.”

It took a very long time before I could make a decision, so I went to his lair and I had an honest and very thought out answer to his proposal. My answer was “Yes, I’ll be one of you”. My answer brought a smile to his face then I remembered the smile that my son gave to me when I gave him his most favored goldfish and an aquarium of his choice, then I knew, I was very satisfied with my answer. Waiting for hours the procedure will now begin, this was the most painful thing that I’ve ever felt. Few hours passed by, they said the procedure was successful but because I was a human I only got 50% of their gene, but I can still do everything that they can do but only weaker.

Giving me a few days to rest, King Neptune called me again and I obliged, we talked on why he gave me their abilities. He said that I would be the guardian of the city, I will protect the just and the unjust then I said that I killed two people and just ran for it. He replied quickly “This is a chance of giving you a new life.” I finally understood, and then he said that I need to change my name. I picked a name that is close to my surname because my surname reminds me of my family. Now my name is Dracos.

Living a vigilante life was one of the best things I’ve ever felt because I get to protect the innocent and I got the chance to get revenge to my obsessed former co-worker. Then one night, I decided to visit my old home, I saw my wife and my kid eating dinner, they seem to be so happy, then I saw something that enraged me. My wife got a new husband. Filled with anger and jealousy I went to the highest mountain that is near in our city, and I screamed with all my might. The clouds are thundering with anger, after a while it started to rain.

As the rain was still pouring, I’m still protecting my beloved city despite the pain that I’m feeling because this is now my destiny. As I was jumping over the rooftops I saw a woman getting mugged in a dark alley, then I got closer, it was not only mugging, it was also attempted rape. The night is very generous to me; I could punish a scumbag that roams my city. After the thug received some beat-down, I saw the lady’s face; I thought I saw a ghost. It was the D.A’s the daughter. I decided to talk to her and told her that the guy who hit her with the car is very sorry. She didn’t say a word, she just walked away, and then she looked back and said “I forgive him….” I smiled and shed a tear.

After a few days, the rain was still not stopping. I finally got tired and I decided to go to the hilltop to get some rest. This is where me and my wife first met, to my surprise they were also there, wearing black clothes. Then she stopped at a big tombstone and something was encrypted “R.I.P. Nathan Drake 1985-2015 ‘Loving Husband and Father’” then she left a bouquet of flower. This vanquished my anger and then the rain finally stopped; the sun showed up and touched the surface of my city again.

While they were going home an earthquake occurred, probably one of the strongest that happened to my city, it lasted for about five minutes. Later on, a landslide occurred and it’s going to hit my family, I hurriedly go to their spot and I stopped the landslide with all my strength, fortunately, I was able to save them. Then my wife stepped out of the car, looking right in my eyes, I don’t know what I was going to do, so I did the simples thing I could ever think of, I removed my domino mask and I showed them my face. My wife didn’t hesitate that I was somebody else, she just bursts into joyful tears then she ran and hug me, I also did the same, then I kissed my son like I’ve never kissed him before, this was the best moment of my life, but this would only last for a day so I tried to make the most of it. I explained to her my situation and she fully understands, then we bid ourselves goodbye and we gave each other the warmest kiss ever. She is still the love of my life.

Now, you must be wondering what happened to my case? Well one thing’s for sure my case got dropped after my “disappearance”, and from time to time, I’m still looking out for my family. Her new husband was a good guy but if he laid one finger at my family, I will destroy him. Then King Neptune, made me his right hand man, we ruled the sea properly and efficiently. As I write this entry, I am looking at an aquarium very similar to my son’s and this served as my inspiration. Now, my city screams, and she needs me.
